HOUSE IN ASHURST WOOD, WEST SUSSEX

admin

The site for this compact three bedroom house, situated just outside the development boundary of the village, was formerly a nursery garden and is characterised by a pronounced slope from north to south. A number of substantial trees in various states of health stand principally on the western side; a promising maturing oak is on the east side and an impressive Monterey cypress is just to the north.

Entry to the site is on the north side – the highest point – so a section diagram quickly emerged that placed living spaces on the upper level, benefitting from the long views and best sunlight, and bedrooms on the lower level with direct access to the south-facing terrace. This arrangement also allowed the building to retain a low profile to the road and not obstruct views from other properties to the north.

The house is designed with high sustainability credentials and aims for a very low carbon footprint.

Planning permission was granted in April 2026.
